Find a DTLLS course near you

In response to the government’s Further Education Workforce reforms (2007), Trinity College London now offers the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) for those wishing to teach English to Speakers of other Languages (ESOL).

If you currently work, or intend to work, in the Lifelong Learning Sector, it is vital that you gain these qualifications. Once you have completed the level 5 DTLLS, you will then be able to apply for qualified teacher (QTLS) status in this sector.

  • Level 4 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (ESOL) – PTLLS
  • Additional Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (ESOL) - ADTLLS
  • Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (ESOL) - DTLLS

Your timescale for achieving these qualifications will depend on a number of factors, such as your previous range of qualifications and experience or the point at which you started working in the sector. If you already possess a teaching qualification, there are a number of progression routes and exemptions that may shorten the necessary coursework.

We realise that determining which qualifications are necessary or right for you can be difficult, so our related Progression Routes and Exemptions pages aim to address many of your potential queries.
