The new Guitar Syllabus: Classical & Plectrum 2010-2012 is now available. Accompanying repertoire books and CDs are also available to order from your local music shop or our online store.
Examination candidates play three pieces chosen from the published list(s) In Classical Guitar exams, the pieces may include up to two guitar duets may be played in Initial to Grade 3 and for the technical work all candidates play Scales, Arpeggios & Technical Exercises or the new Technical Suite.
For all guitar examinations there are two further tests. Up to and including Grade 5, candidates may choose any two tests from: Aural, Sight Reading, Improvisation and Musical Knowledge.
In Grades 6, 7 and 8, Sight Reading is compulsory, but candidates may still choose between Aural and Improvisation.
Guitar and Plectrum Guitar Scales and Exercises are available from your local music shop or from our online store.
There is a one session overlap arrangement between the current and the new syllabus and during the first session of 2010 candidates may offer repertoire from the 2007–2009 syllabus however, all technical work and supporting tests must be taken from the new syllabus. The book Technical Development for Guitarists is withdrawn from 1 January 2010 and may not be used for any examination from that date.
The new syllabus for Guitar (Classical & Plectrum) supercedes all previously published repertoire lists and should be viewed in conjunction with Information and Regulations 2009.
