Play Trinity Rock & Pop app named ‘Best New Mobile App – Fall 2017’ in the Best Mobile App Awards

15 December 2017

Trinity College London’s new music practice app, Play Trinity Rock & Pop, has just been announced as the Platinum winner of the ‘Best New Mobile App – Fall 2017’ contest in the Best Mobile App Awards.

The Play Trinity Rock & Pop app gives aspiring musicians an exciting and innovative new way to practise, putting them behind their own mixing desk and allowing them to be both artist and producer. Learners can play or sing along to professionally recorded tracks for hundreds of well-known songs, and can adjust pitch, tempo and the volume levels of individual instruments. Each instrument on the tracks is played by a highly experienced session musician, so learners can mute their own instrument in the mix and play along live as part of a professional band.

The ‘Best New Mobile App – Fall 2017’ award recognises the best apps that have launched in the past year. The judging panel, made up of expert designers, developers and publishers, were looking for apps that recently made a big impact, and considered user interface, functionality, usefulness, and overall quality when making their decision. Commenting on the award, Julia Martin, Trinity’s Head of Arts Product Development, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded Platinum! Play Trinity Rock & Pop was created following requests from teachers and learners for more support materials to help them with lessons, practice and exam preparation, and was developed to help students gain confidence and improve their technical and performance skills. So we’re really pleased to have had the app recognised for its usefulness and impact.”

Feedback from users of the app has also been positive: James Sedge, Director of Music Station, a music school in the UK, said: ‘the feedback from teachers and students was really positive… we will be using the app in approximately 400 lessons a week and it’s already changing how I teach my lessons.’
